    What is it?

The new 556bhp 6.2-litre V8 Cadillac CTS-V, which is due in the UK later this year in left-hand drive only and at 'a price closer to M3 than M5’, according to Cadillac.

Engineers at GM's high-performance division have spared no effort to build a great car. It’s kitted with a slightly detuned version of the supercharged, intercooled V8 of the forthcoming Corvette...Read the full article

    I'm impressed but 2 tonnes?

    It's not even that big!

I'm not too bothered how much it weighs. The Bentley Continental is bloody heavy but it drives fantastically.

A truly impressive car.  Beautiful styling inside and out, killer performance.  Look out Merc and BMW.  Wish I could afford one.

And Audi's RS6. The boys in Ingolstadt must be a bit miffed if those performance figures are true.

Pity its so ugly inside and out.

Where are the screaming chicken decals and ripply cladding?

Amazing they have been left off.

A big displacement supercharged pushrod engine.

Really pushing the technological boundaries GM.

Well done Cadillac. The car is too heavy ( but so are most modern saloons ) but it looks as if a serious effort is being made to compete on the world stage. And for those of you who think so little of large displacement pushrod engines; drive one, and then come and talk to me.

Given the monthly sales figures of the Cadillac brand (3 in July, 2 in August?) shouldn't their adverts read "Driven by a king, a president and a rock star"

Why does Autocar bother road testing these things - oh, two full-page ads this week.

I'm glad they test them. If they only reviewed cars that sold in high volumes then it would be a much more boring magazine. Plus this has the potential to do well.

"Ugly inside and out"?  Obviously, you haven't physically seen a new CTS.  It's better looking inside and out than comprable Merc or BMW.  As far as the "big"pushrod engine, GM has refined them for 50 years.  Very dependable, smooth, quiet, good fuel economy (for the displacement size) and loads of linear torque from low revs.  I don't see any 1.8L motors in the performance versions of full size Merc's or BMW's, they're all V8's or even V12's!

Maybe you should go drive one, then comment on it.  I doubt you've ever driven (or needless to say owned) a car this good.  Well done Cadillac!

Here, here;  the car is fantastic looking in the flesh, especially on the inside (although I have to admit that the front grille on the 3.6 is even more attractive).

I anxiously await Autocar to diss this vehicle in their full road test because on UK roads, only BMW and Merc are worth mentioning due to their on the limit performance...hmmm...has this been printed in the past before???? Oh, let's just forget that this puppy is quickest around Nürburgring.
