  • Great intros to songs

    Aug 15, 2008 8:26 PM

Just to be clear in advance, I am not cool when it comes to music. People who have commented on other threads about music on this site have quoted the names of musicians that I have never heard of (although we all know they're showing off or even making it up). Anyway, what in your view is the best intro (the part of a song before the singing at the start) of all time ? I don't know about all time but I was listening to "In between days" by The Cure earlier and bloody loved it. There is a book running on how many times "Stairway to Heaven" and "Blue Monday" is mentioned. You have been warned.

IF anyone has the Alchemy album from Dire Straits, then I have 2 songs. Tunnel of Love and Telegraph Road. Great Intros!

I believe it is traditional to make a list of these things?

    1) Gimme Shelter, Rolling Stones

    2) Theme from Shaft, Isaac Hayes (RIP)

    3) Do It Again, Steely Dan

    4) For Those About To Rock, AC/DC

and, in the short but sweet category...

    5) Highway Star, Deep Purple, or Love Is A Long Road, Tom Petty; take your pick.

I promise I do actually own music produced after 1980. Honest.

There is always the classic Kiss song Detroit Rock City, but it has to be the version on the Destroyer Album (not on the various Alive versions).

The song starts the album, and you hear background noise followed by a cassette taop (remember them?) being inserted and then screaching tyres followed by a crash sound and then one of the all time great riffs.

Also there is the obvious Queen song Don't Stop me Now, but how about there song I'm in love with me Car

"Slow Dancing" by Lindsey Buckingham (of Fleetwood Mac)

    or the best ending:

"The Chain" (again it's Fleetwood Mac)
