  • 'Other' people driving YOUR car...

    Jul 24, 2008 2:27 AM

I am not to sure about anyone else here, but I get really frustrated when others drive my car (in this case by others I mean family). Now I have no objection to people driving my cars, however what really gets me is when others leave their garbage inside, and then change all the stereo settings. I have felt my blood boil when I have wanted to listen to 'Comfortably Numb' and it has too much bass, and too little treble. To a lesser extent, finding that the steering wheel has been moved, and the seat has been put in a higher position can irritate me when all of the aforementioned has happened, but I do understand that not everyone has the same seating position as me. Now this is probably just me being a 'tiny' bit anal, but I had to get it off my chest! As for my next car, seat memory positions are a must. Anybody else have any pet hates when others drive their car's?

That's why I rarely let other people drive my car and only if it is absolutely necessary. They know better than trying to change any settings though. LOL.

I really gets my goat also. I take great pride in my car looking it's best inside and out. But what really get my goat are those people who travel with you and leave all sorts of rubbish behind, they may use their own cars as bins, but leave mine in the condition you found it.

Then again I am over the top with cleanliness in cars. The other week I hired a car from Hertz from Brussels Airport and I found myself brushing dust off the various bits of the interior as the Hertz staff had not picked up on it.

I need to find a car with electric memory seats etc. so I can program the settings in for my wife, thereby all I have to do is press a button and alls well.

I don't mind sharing my car at all.

I share mine with a family member because living in London I barely use it.  The bonus is that I get it when I need it and I only pay the insurance.  All other costs are covered by others.

On the hand, the changing stereo settings are a bit annoying :)

Finally someone who shares the same problem as I.

    My pet hates are;

1, going into the car and finding that you have to be a contortionist to get behind the wheel because some small minded individual (my wife) has moved the seat so far forward it resembles a BTCC drivers steering wheel position.

2, when I find a half eaten packet of wine gums on the passenger foot well and the remenants scattered all over the car.

3, and to top it all off.................... crap in the ash tray. I don't know about you, but I find it really hard to clean properly and really gets on my ticket.

So you like your cars to resembles rubbish receptacles?

This is not miserable, it's common decency to leave the car in the state you find it.

That way madness lies, my friend.  Soon after you'll want it to do the door mirrors...then the rear view mirror...then the steering wheel...then change ride height...then adjust the stereo settings...dash lighting...climate...endless madness.

Do what I did...buy a car the wife is scared of driving, life is much better.  My memory seats now have a setting for me and for cleaning.  :o)

at a slight tangent, I often pull into a car park space and glance into the car next to mine. Sometimes you see the 'I had more kids than I can cope with' type wagon, a tired looking Zafira, Focus estate or one of those weird named Japanese import buses with a reversing mirror dangling off the back. Inside is a landfill site of macdonalds packaging, crisp packets, broken cd cases, coats and jumpers for all seasons, the kids muddy football kit - its basically a junk shed. I usually get back in mine and move elsewhere - if some tribe has so very little respect for the vehicle they own, how little will they care about dinging the living daylights out my doors?

But at least I am not anal enough to go steal the Parent/Child spots like the Audi TT bunch. Its just a car!

I'm lucky as my wife cannot drive.

Ironically, she cannot drink alcohol, so we both return from parties as sober as a judge.

Hirsch,  I'm fully with you on this one, anyone crapping in the ashtray is beyond the pale.  And a contortionist, I imagine.
