If you could bring a dead rock star back to life

    Jul 17, 2008 6:44 PM

If you could bring a dead rock star back to life for one gig, who would it be? John Lennon, Jimi Hendrix, Elvis, Kurt Cobain, Buddy Holly? Freddie Mercury? Or someone else? This Day in Music are carrying out a world-wide survey to see which dead rock stars people would want to see again - for one night only! Who would you pick? You can see a full list and vote on www.thisdayinmusic.com

I immediately thought Jimi Hendrix. But I look at Jimmy Page now, and think that Hendrix would be even more of a pastiche of his former self than Page is. There is a dearth of good, modern, classical composers also. I like some of the works of Philip Glass and Howard Shore (Einaudi has occasional moments also), so there could be an argument for Beethoven, Mozart, and - say - Mendelssohn. I think, though, the Stevie Ray Vaughan's career was cut off in his prime and I really do wonder what he'd be doing today.
There is no such thing as bravery. Only degrees of fear.

Gram Parsons.  And also Jello Biafra to be resurrected after he dies...

Just had a look at the results so far, John Lennon in third, John Bonham from Led Zepp in second and Elvis has the most votes at the moment. I would've thought John Lennon would win this no problem? Freddie Mercury is in forth place, Hendrix is in fifth and Kurt Cobain in sixth.

This is my sort of thread and utterly unrelated to cars...Mick Ronson, a superb exponent of riffing rock guitar and he looked so good whilst doing it, then Mark Bolan and then Tommy Bolin and also Paul Kossoff who died far too young. Yep I love guitar gods...I could have been a contender and if there is a gag in all this it is Keith Richards....

    AC/DC!

Caeser ruled with an iron hand, then with a wooden foot and finally with a piece of string.

     Ian Curtis?

Then I could get him to sign my DVD of Closer and it would be worth a fortune.

You really should get him to sign a few and then kill him. You would make even more money that way. Just being practical.

Wouldn't need to kill him, he has a history of suicide...

Cliff Burton, who would then help Metallica regain the crown of best metal band ever.

Art as expression, not as market campaigns.
    Will still capture our imagination.
