  • Revealed: Audi A3 clubsport

    May 17, 2008 6:35 AM

This is the Audi A3 TDi clubsport quattro – a bold hot hatch concept that is designed to give us a glimpse at the potential of the company’s 2.0-litre TDI engine.
Built for the annual gathering of VW and Audi enthusiasts at Austria’s Lake Worthersee this week, the clubsport uses a highly tuned version of the diesel with 221bhp and 332lb ft of torque.
Although there are no direct plans to produce a car like the clubsport, Audi is working on a range of hot diesels that are being developed...Read the full article

Small Audi's seem to have become the 'chav mobile' for certain thrusting types that one encounters on the highways and byways in the Midlands.

These seem to get up my nose more than BMW's ever did - ducking and diving - moving and grooving - and looking at the picture Audi seem determined to build a chav motor.

Can't see it myself and another example of Autocar and it's 'no news' approach to 'exclusives'. I'll qualify this by saying look at the picture - it'll never happen. It looks like an 'aftermarket' solution to someone's dreams of chavdom.

Hollowed out door handles to save weight, and an infotainment package? Sounds like a 'max power' solution to me.

Imagine if this had been shown a few years ago as an 'Audi concept car'. It would have been laughed out of town! Not exactly classic, clean, timeless design is it? What a shame Audi has come to this. I agree (although i own a 2.0 A3) that their image is quickly replacing BMW's as the worst drivers of the road. I guess Audi would be happy at that news though, as all they seem intent on is copying BMW.

I can't help thinking this will be yet another great car from Audi ruined by there overly competant Quattro 4wd system.

Much like the TT. Great car. ruined by dull handling

    ..Just a thought.. hmm

332lb ft of torque!  That will is what makes a diesel sports car very interesting.

Oh yeah, and it gets good gas mileage.

Failing to see where this sort of car fits in to Audi's range.  I thought this was more of a SEAT thing, especially considering the potential marketing link with the BTCC / WTCC cars.

Another case of blurred borders in the VW group.

What a hideous, nasty, nedtastic little chav chariot.

It's a diesel so it'll probably be either silent or sound like a cement mixer full of nails. With Quattro as well it'll probably be the most boring fast hatch ever. Maybe the fast Audi diesels are being designed with Switzerland in mind?

    Burn it.

Why can't anyone post something pleasant about a new car?  None of you have seen it far less driven it, so why the vitriol?  Nothing wrong with small Audis.

I bought an S3 six months ago and can't fault its handling or its performance or its build quality.  If that makes me a chav I'm glad to join the rest of you.

The S3 is a lovely car (I've only ever sat in one unfortunately) but that club sport thing is horrible going by the picture. Given that an artist's impression is meant to show it in it's 'best light' things don't bode well for the real thing.

BTW - welcome to the forum, you'll hopefully get used to the negativity if you stick around.

Does your S3 have the flat bottomed steering wheel? That's surely the nicest wheel in production. They look great in white too.

    Peace, Darth Balls

    Darth,

Thanks for the kindly welcome - much appreciated.

No, I went for the round wheel - I'm skinny enough to fit!  Agreed the clubsport looks horrible, but surely they wouldn't produce it with a finish like that.

For me the dull appearance of the S3 is an advantage (mine's grey).  Doesn't upset people so much when you overtake them...

    Cheers, Ian.
