Pauldalg's Application of Penalties thread wandered into an interesting question....

Who should be the next FIA President?

I like Ubizzle's suggestion of Pat Symonds, he seems like a fairly decent bloke, but I think my options would be....

     1. Damon Hill - Outside of being a stand-up gent he's also been a mature, level-headed F1 world champ. He's obviously very smart and and I think his clean cut image would help motoring and motorsport generally. I would worry about him getting pushed around by Bernie though.

    2. Sutters - He's done a bit of racing so so has a good picture about what's important in that area but also, being an Autocar Mag supremo, has a very good picture on motoring generally. Can't see Bernie bullying him either, even with all his henchmen.

PS. Sutters and Chris Hoy - never seen in the same room together at the same time. Noted. Congrats on your 3 golds in the Beijing Velodrome, Sutters!

Don't think Hill would do it.  Too political.  Remember it's an unpaid position so it will need to be someone that has enough ready cash to splash out (fnarr) on an S&M dominatrix (or five) and keep a straight face.

    Michael Schumacher.

And this is why it will probably be some old fart, who in the general scheme of things has little or no real association with motoring but instead is a good ambassador for the organisation.

Jean Todt would do fine for me, thank you very much. Bun then again I am an ardent Ferrari fan. ;)

What about Jeffrey off of Rainbow ? He'd do a better job than f&*kface that's got the current job.

I don't think people realise that the FIA President's job is more than F1. The way the WRC and WTCC have been forgotten is particularly criminal, and need to be addressed with lack of new Manufacturers.

There is also the road and general motoring side of the job.

What we don't need is another F1/Bernie stooge.
