    What is it?

The hottest version of the new age Mini so far. The ‘JCW’ uses a tuned version of the standard Cooper S’s 1.6-litre engine to deliver 208bhp – enough to propel if from 0-62mph in a claimed 6.5 seconds and onto a top speed of 148 mph.

After the success of BMW’s previous ‘John Cooper Works’ kit on the previous Mini, the JCW brand has been brought in-house to create what we’re encouraged to see as an equivalent of parent BMW’s M-Division.

I've been privalidged enough to be able to drive the JCW already, I found the exhaust note very entertaining and the steering had a much firmer feel than that of the standard Cooper S.

One of the most important facts that surrounds the MINI is residual values, yes the car is expensive - quote "The John Cooper Works feels like it’s going to struggle to justify its seriously steep pricetag against some of its seriously talented, cheaper rivals..." but if you can afford the initial price tag then in 3 years you wont have regreted it.

    FFFFFFFFFF.....

That's the noise I made though my teeth when I got to the bottom of the page and saw the price.

OMG! £21k for a poorly equipped small car.

    Sounds very cheap to me.

Here in Israel (The official automotive hell...) 21,000 pounds won't even get you into a Mini One (From 27,000 pounds). A standard Cooper S? 37,000 pounds before options, thanks for asking.

I have recently placed an order for a black JCW with all the options I can afford. Few things that you mentioned that are incorrect though, it does not come with 18" rims but, rather the special light weight Borbet rims identical to the Challenge car. The Aero Kit, Carbon Fibre trims, Recaros are amongst the most expensive options. The 5K extra your are paying for are of course for the performance and the 17" Borbet rims only. So I do agree, from the inside, it is rather bland and nothing special compared to the Cooper S Chilli where it is based on. Unless you prepared to fork out extra dough to make it "individual", the 5K is all worth it when you drive the car.

I was convinced I'd be placing an order for a JCW this summer, I just wish they'd included the funky carbon/alcantara JCW Steering Wheel and a pair of the Recaro seats. It'd be on my drive quicker than you can sign over £22,000.

I know motoring hacks love to get a table consisting for three columns, "Power, 0-62, Price", and simply pick the one that falls convieniently in the middle. But fortunately for the motoring industry, the general public were blessed with hearts and minds too. So when I buy a car, I know what I want to spend, know how I'm going to use it, and how much junk I'm going to carry round.

So why would I want a Scirocco??? Just because its bigger?!?! JCW for me please.

£21K for a MINI!!! Ok, its quick, but I'm sorry, there a plenty more cars out there that look better, cost less and are less, well, dare I say it, 'feminine'.Sorry, but the Mini is definately not worth £21K.
