Audi's flagship range suddenly seems a little less cutting edge than before, now that the predictably wonderful new Mercedes S-class is strutting its stuff. At least it betters the Merc for style and interior design, while super-torquey 4.2-litre turbodiesel V8 remains something of a marvel. Elegant, subtle and talented.
