These are early images of the new Aspid, a lightweight, Spanish-built sports car that’ll make its debut at the British motor show.
Built by engineering consultancy IFR Automotive, the aluminium two-seater has been five years in the making and is claimed to offer 570bhp per tonne.
The Aspid’s powered by a 2.0-litre petrol engine, which its makers say can be supercharged to offer 400bhp. It’ll hit 0-62mph in 2.8 seconds and 100mph in 5.9 seconds, according to its maker’s claims, and it can generate enough grip to subject its drivers to 1.6g in the corners. Top speed is restricted to 155mph.
Tested near Aspid’s factory, on the roads that make up the Catalunya rally stages in northern Spain, the Aspid’s makers are somewhat ambiguous about its price. The base model is expected to cost £75,000 but “no two Aspid’s will be the same” and fully-specced versions could cost twice as much.
