The McLaren F1 is the finest driving machine yet built for the public road. Its real achievement is containing its performance within such a guileless chassis. Yes, it has too much performance for the public road but, paradoxically, it is that excess which actually provides the F1 with its justification. The F1 is a car that will always be capable of showing you something undiscovered, something you didn’t believe a road car could manage.
The F1 will be remembered as one of the great events in the history of the car, and it may possibly be the fastest production road car the world will ever see.
