Road Test

Bentley Continental GT

Test date 11 November 2003  Price as tested £120,500

WO Bentley made his first car in 1919 and, in the 12 years before his firm was subsumed by Rolls-Royce in 1931, it won Le Mans five times. From then on the marques developed new models in tandem, and they both moved to Crewe in 1946. After 67 years together, few thought they could ever be split, but when Volkswagen bought the Crewe operation from Vickers in 1998, BMW secured the rights to the Rolls-Royce name and set up a new factory at Goodwood. VW took Bentley back to Le Mans, where the Speed 8 earned it a sixth victory earlier this year.
